Welcome to Daily Digits! My name is Matthew, and I am a civil engineer and computer scientist based in Australia. Mathematics has been a fundamental passion of mine for as long as I can remember, ultimately driving my career path in engineering and software development.
The seed for Daily Digits was planted back in my junior school days in 1998. I had an inspirational mathematics teacher who introduced us to a fascinating classroom challenge: taking the four digits of the current year—1, 9, 9, and 8—and using basic arithmetic operators to construct equations that equaled every number from 1 all the way to 30.
That simple classroom game left a lasting impression. Years later, combining my background in computer science with my lifelong love for logic puzzles, I decided to digitise and expand that experience for puzzle enthusiasts everywhere. That inspiration became Yearly Digits—where players use the four digits of the current year to unlock past years—and eventually evolved into the daily competitive game you play today!
